Wayne D. Sorensen Obituary The Spectrum, St. George, Utah January 23, 1999 Wayne Douglas Sorensen, 81, passed away Jan. 21, 1999 in St. George after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 7, 1917 in Salt Lake City to John Henry Sorensen and Luella Johnston Sorensen. He married Donna Warnick on Nov. 12, 1942. She passed away on April 21, 1949. He married Beryl Gillen Brush in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 23, 1953. Together they raised nine children. Wayne spent his early years in Salt Lake. Shortly after graduating from West High School, he moved to Delta with his mother, step-father John Wilford Swalberg, and brother Glen Wilford Swalberg, where they founded the Delta Auto Supply. Wayne worked at the Delta Auto until his retirement in 1982. Following his retirement, he and Beryl moved to St. George where they served for many years in the ST. George Temple. He was a veteran of World War II. He was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in various callings. His greatest pleasure in life was his family. He loved to travel and go camping. He especially looked forward each year to the annual family reunion held at Fishlake. He enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren and hearing about their accomplishments. Wayne is survived by his wife Beryl of St. George, children Christine (Darryl) Harris, Seoul, Korea; Lois Bessent, Las Vegas, Nev.; John (Eileen) Sorensen, Omaha, Neb.; DeRay Brush, Las Vegas, Nev.; Suzanne Rowser, Heber City; Wayne (Julie) Brush, Santa Clara; Craig (Lori) Sorensen, Delta; and Kurt (Linda) Sorensen, Delta; 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also survived by one brother, Glen (Helen) Swalberg, Delta. He was preceded in death by one son, Paul Dee Brush. A viewing will be held in St. George on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, from 7-8:30 pm at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. ST. George Blvd., St. George. A viewing will be held in Delta on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 7-8:30 pm at the Nickel Mortuary, 190 South Center. Funeral services will be held on Jan. 25 at 11 am in the Delta Second Ward, 200 W. 200 N., where friends may call from 9:30 until 10:45. Burial will be in the Delta Cemetery. |
